TROPHIES, PREPARATION & SHIPMENT

Field preparation and the transport of trophies to local taxidermists is our responsibility and included in our prices.

There are a number of very good taxidermists in NZ.

The export of trophies from NZ to the USA or into EU countries etc. is subject to an export certificate (some countries also require a CITES document).

The export certificate is issued when the trophies are mounted, the skulls cleaned and bleached, the skins salted and dried. This work has to be carried out by a registered taxidermist.

Shipment of the trophies can be organized by us or the taxidermist.

EQUIPMENT

Weather conditions can change very quickly. NZ is a true testing ground for clothing and equipment. Protection from hot as well as cold conditions including rain and snow is essential.

Please ask for a detailed equipment list.

FIREARMS

Bolt action rifles with flat shooting calibres are ideal for New Zealand conditions. Calibres should be no smaller than .270 Win. and not bigger than .338. Rifles should be sighted in for a distance of 200 meters.

Tahr are tough animals, requiring a hard projectile.

It is easy to import bolt action rifles and shotguns into NZ. As many airlines restrict the transport of firearms, hunters are welcome to use our rifles, a small charge applies.

We have got a good selection of high quality rifles and optics available. All rifles will be test fired before the hunt.

If hunters choose to bring their own rifles, a permit to import and a tourist firearms license is required. Those licenses are issued at the airport. Application forms can be obtained at: www.police.govt.nz
